| So our landlord has given us the go ahead, under certain conditions, and we are now looking into getting licensed provided that is what you guys want. Understand that we have no desire to present ourselves as a 'bar' but as a business primarily focused on providing an optimal gaming experience while providing the option of alcoholic beverages in a controlled environment, under such conditions as the following:
- No hard liquor (beer only, possibly wine) - Alcohol would only be served to primary customers engaged in computer gaming and will not be served to any customers whose primary goal it is to come in and drink, or who are already drunk - Sales may be restricted to certain hours - We would not tolerate any sort of disruptive behaviour and would escort out and ban any disruptive customers
Personally I think being able to come in, relax, and play some games over a couple beers would greatly enhance the experience at Apocalypse as long as it's something done in moderation and we're able respect the environment and fellow gamers in it; which is something I don't see as being a major problem within our community. But let us know what you all think!!
UPDATE > Do to the opinions voiced from you guys, not being able to allow minors, and an increasing number of customers coming in; we've decided to put the liquor license on hold.

| Given that we have a Class B (or is it Class C?) license in mind, I believe it allows you to serve alcohol and still have minors around, provided you check ID, like a restaurant. Of course, Chris knows better than I do. | |

| Unfortunately we didn't qualify for the 'recreational facility' class B license (you'd have to ask the AGLC how they don't consider us a recreational facility, basically they told us every other internet cafe has gotten a class A so we should too), so yea, the class A would mean no minors. | |

| I agree. Beer is the win. I'm just deterred by the fact that we had a boy scout troupe (Like...10 kids, plus their adult supervisors) come in the other day and by the beard of Zeus, they loved it here. | |

Just spitballin here but, is it possible with a class a to have a seperate area for the liquor thus cutting off the beer drinkers from the children? (im also 19 so i could care less however 2 of our members are under age for sure, and theres alot of pretty cool early-late teens out there) The reason im askin is i know we have a class A at our Arena here in Viking (part of the restraunt making it a Class A needed rather then a B ), and we have a seperate room for the liquor, (however it must be drank in that area) So maybe as a possability have a spot for the beer drinkers to hang out and have a beer inbetween games? (not sure if it will work or if theres space for it but might be an idea)

| Hi All
Another of the local Scouts checking in (Advisor this time).
The youth did like the place and would be interested in returning. I think as a group we logged about 25 hours total plus a few snacks. However, this sort of event would likely only happen once every two to three months for us so you will have to weigh that against extra income from the drinks+extra college student interest.
Either way, we had a lot of fun.

Either way, we had a lot of fun. I gotta say, I love you guys as customers, and you guys were the first concern to spring to mind when our Class B license was denied. We've definitely got your interests close to our thoughts on this matter.

| Hey,
A few of us read over the Class A license requirements and noticed it does not necessarily restrict minors.
http://www.aglc.gov.ab.ca/pdf/liquor/5222.pdf
Have you guys already applied and received approval?
The two sections that apply to minors are these:
3. Food Service ♦ A Class A licensee who allows minors will provide a selection of hot food items such as meat, poultry or fish; rice, potatoes, or pasta; vegetables; ethnic food or pizza (e.g., roast beef dinner, full buffet, etc.). ♦ A Class A licensee who prohibits minors will offer a selection of hot food items which could include hot dogs, pizza, hamburgers, chicken wings, sandwiches, etc.
AND
Minors Minors are not permitted to enter premises with a Class A license which prohibits minors, except as authorized in the regulations. Signs which read “No Minors” must be posted at all entrances. Minors may not sell or serve liquor, and are not permitted to receive liquor service in licensed premises under any circumstances. Minors are only allowed to enter Class A premises that convey the appearance and operate in the style of a dining room.
So if I am reading this properly then your place needs a hot kitchen setup serving hot food either way (minors or no). I don't think I noticed this...do you guys serve hot food? If you do then adding pizza would qualify as the hot food for minors. And if you don't, then I'm not sure you qualify for a Class A period.
As to the second part about minors needing to be in a dinning room, well I don't know. I guess that depends on what constitutes as a dining room. Perhaps a single table near rock band with disposable cutlery??
Either way, if you guys do not serve hot food it looks like you do not and should not qualify as a Class A so perhaps an appeal?
Technically under Class B you need to offer hot food as well to patrons unless you get in as a "Theater" offering live musical and entertainment (Rock Band Stage).

| As far as Chris (Raven) tells me, we're going to be getting a microwave setup with pizza pops, hot pockets and other stereotypical gamer food. Send him a private message through these forums and you should be able to discuss it in depth with him. | |

| Yea unfortunately the AGLC seems to be really sticky on the food menu so basically without full kitchen facilities (which is not an option for us) we wouldn't be able to allow minors. | |

| My vote is a no. Liquor is a bad idea I think. However, some Irish Cream for coffee's could be nice.
I think that some specific brands and labels of liquor sold at bar prices could garner a nice profit and offer a specialty service to the clients who come in. THen again, without an espresso maker, latte's and other fancy coffee drinks are impossible.
Am i rambling?
I hope this helps all

| I'm all for it so long as it doesn't become an adult only venue, alcohol in moderation isn't a bad thing by any means. Though I might feel a little out of place if it's everywhere (rows of bottles decorating the concession, posters, etc), I don't think that's a valid reason to deprive other customers of it.
EDIT: As of reading page 2 i now know that it'll be a no minors place. Fraid I have to vote no on this one, but the idea's on hold anyways so I guess my post won't really have much impact.

| I'm locking this thread up as the poll is closed. Officially, we are still a no-booze venue. Minors rejoice! | |
